"Adequate and Healthy Food: A Right of all"

The motto of the 4th National Conference on Food and Nutrition Security was chosen for the following reasons:

• The need to affirm the perspective of rights and strengthen the fact that the accomplishment of the right to food requires from the State and society in general, actions and initiatives which are not restricted to the quantitative aspect of the access to food, but also its qualitative aspect;

• Approval of the Constitutional amendment n° 064/2010 which includes the right to food among the fundamental rights of article no. 6 of the Federal Constitution, which requires the engagement of society in the national campaign: “Food: Right of all – make it happen”;

• The need to universalize the conditions of access to food;

• Potential of sustainability of the production systems of agro-ecological base which require incorporation in the public policies;

• Transition of the nutrition and epidemiologic profile of the Brazilian population, with an advance of over weight and obesity;

• Threats to the food sovereignty and to the food and nutritional security, such as the restriction to the free use of biodiversity by the family farmers, indigenous communities and traditional communities, the advance of the monocultures, the abusive use of agro toxics and the liberation of transgenic, among others.
